Cross Country County Championships - Un-Even ages - U9,11,13,15 & 17

This coming Sunday at St Augustines College in Dungarvan sees week 2 of the County Cross Country Championships for children born in 2002 or before.

For parents who are not familiar with how the ages work it goes as follows:
Children born in 2002 are U9, 2001 and 2000 are U11, 1999 and 1998 are U13, 1997 and 1996 are U15 with 1995 and 1994 being U17.

Your children have been back now a number of weeks and training with cross country in mind so lets make every effort to get them to Dungarvan to make up teams and maybe win a few medals at the same time. The follow up Munster championships are in Charleville in Co.Cork on Nov 7th and we will be setting up a special cross country training squad following next Sunday's county attendance to prepare fully. If the squad is large enough we will send a bus to the event.

Your support in getting your children to the county championships this weekend would be greatly appreciated by the coaches.

Cross Country County Championships - Even ages - U10,12,14,16 & 18

Medals were hard to come by on Sunday at St Augustines College in Dungarvan but our ever improving U12 boys team of Hugo Blair, Jamie McCarthy, Luke O'Brien and David McGlynn won team Gold wth Hugo getting individual bronze also. Other members of the team who each ran strong were Fergus O'Brien, Ryan O'Loughlin and Luke Cronin. Best of luck to these young boys at the Munster Championships in 2 weeks tme.

The only other Juvenile team we managed to field was the girls U14 of Gwyneth Blair, Erica Kelly, Emma O'Brien and Louise Reidy. Well done to the girls and better luck next week where Gwyneth steps down to the U13 and Erica, Emma and Louise step up to U15.

Two excellent individual performances on the day were had by Nicole Rowe in winning the U16 girls race and Kate Nolan who came second to International Juvenile athlete Kate Veale in the U18 race.

Other members who competed were Emma Caulfield, Nicole McCarthy, Ethan Flynn, Garvin Blair, Eoin O'Grady, Cliona Brennan, Conor Quinn, Saoirse Casey Power, Niamh Tebay, Caroline Farrelly, Richard Lucas and Killiane Hearne. Juvenile member Claire Grant competed in the Novice race and was a member of the bronze winning team.

Out of a current membership of over 200 athletes we only had 25 competing on the day: can we do better next week??
Next Sunday at the same venue, with a start time of 1pm again, we look forward to many more members making the short journey to compete at the U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 championships.
