St Senans AC and Leevale Open Sports report
On Monday the 9th of April Waterford AC athletes competed in St. Senans Open Sports. Despite the weather medals were there to be won. U9 Jack Corcoran 1st 80m sprint, U10 Victory Eddy 1st 300m, U11 Ethan Flynn 3rd 300m. U12 Cathal Scanlon 3rd in the Shot. U 12 Lyndsey McGuire 2nd 700m. U 13 Hugo Blair 2nd 700m.U15 Gwyneth Blair 3rd 700m.
The boys U10 relay race finished 3rd with the U 12 boys finishing 2nd. Just outside the medals but putting in some strong performances were U12 Jeff Fanning 4th in the U 12 700m and Jack Deegan finishing 4th in the 300m. Well done to all who braved the elements and participated. Sunday 15th of April Lee Vale, Cork Leevale Open Sports day held in the state of the Art CIT Campus in Cork was well attended this year with hundreds of participants filling the stands from clubs all over Munster.Waterford AC had large number of athletes travelling to the highly competitive event. U 9 Jack Corcoran came 2nd in the 60m sprint, Victory Eddie ran a great race to take first place and the coveted gold medal in the U 10 80M Sprint.Jack Corcoran also came 2nd in the Under 10 300m. Hugo Blair was third in the U 13 600m and Gwyneth Blair was 2nd in the 100m hurdles.All athletes had to compete in heats on to semi finals then to finals.Many athletes competed up an age in events not catered in their age group.In the relays U10 boys won bronze, Dylan Rowe, Victory Eddy, Fortune Eddy and Jack Corcoran. U12 boys relay came in 4th, Ethan Flynn, Jeff Fanning , Lee Mackey and Cathal Scanlon. Other athletes who had good performances were Victory Eddie who finished 4th in the 300m final U 10.Sarah Jacob was 4th in the shot U12 out of her age.. Niamh Denn came through the heats to reach the U13 sprints finals.Ethan Flynn and Cathal Scanlon also qualified to the finals of the U 12 out of their age.Lyndsey McGuire was unlucky not to progress from the U12 semi final 80 m finishing in third place.Fergus O' Brien was 3rd in his semi final U 14 100 m just outside qualification for the final

Munster Indoors U14 to U19
Saturday 3rd and Sunday the 4th of March saw a number of Waterford A.C. athletes travel to Nenagh, Co. Tipperary for the U14-U19 Munster Indoor Track and Field . It was the first time for most of our athletes to compete in events such as high jump and hurdles. On Saturday Sally Brown U15 competed in the 60m and long jump . Emma O' Brien U15 200m and 60 m sprint.Saoirse Casey Power U 17 200m , long jump and 800m . Also to compete U19 boys was Richard Lucas running in the 1500m race. Sunday 4th of March U14 Aoife Dullaghan competed in the 60m hurdles, Isabel Roche competed in the high jump.Kathleen Heery competed in the shot finishing outside the medals. U15 Sally Brown and Gwyneth Blair both competed in the 60m hurdles for the first time at Munster level. U14 boys Luke O'Brien competed in the 60m sprint and long jump, finishing outside the medals for the long jump. Jamie McCarthy and David McGlynn both competed in the 60m; their 800m race proved very competitive both running a strong race. All our athletes did the club proud the competition at this age level is extremely high; however valuable experience was gain by our athletes and coaches. A total of 6 medals were won by Waterford A.C. athletes at Munster Indoor Track & Field 2012 .Well done !
Munster Indoors U9 to U13
Last Weekend 25th & 26th of February saw Waterford AC athletes compete in their 1st Under 9 - Under 13 Munster Indoor Track & Field Championship. This was a very exciting encounter for all club athletes and coaches.The event took place over two days in Nenagh Co.Tipperary which saw a number of Athletes competing and medaling. Waterford A.C. fielded a number of strong athletes U9- U13. Waterford A.C. claimed 5 medals at Munster level. Under 9 Jack Corcoran excelled winning gold in the long jump , silver in the 60m sprint and silver in the 300m race.The 300m boys U 9 race turned out to be a very close finish with Jack finishing very strong in second place. U10 Victory Eddie excelled winning gold in the long jump and Victory ran an exceptional 60m race to finish second claiming silver in the 60m sprint.We also had a number of athletes coming through heats, semi-finals and on to the finals. U 11 Ethan Flynn was unfortunate not to make the 600m final by split seconds. Ethan ran a strong 60m final finishing just outside the medals, Ethan finished 4th in the U11 long jump. U13 Hugo Blair showed gallant effort in both 60m sprint and 600m race. Hugo made the final finishing just outside the medals. Fergus O'Brien reached the final of the shot coming in just outside the medals. Other boys to compete were U10 Dylan Rowe, U11 Garvin Blair, Craig Morrisey and Jay Hogan. U13 Maurice Fitzgerald, Aaron Delaney. In the girls U10 Claire Caulfield reached the final finishing just outside the medals. U12 Lauren Robinson reached the final to finish 8th. U12 Lyndsey McGuire finished 4th in a very competitive 600m final. U13 Niamh Denn finished 4th in the shot final, Niamh also competed in competition for the first time in the high jump, she did herself and the club proud jumping 1.27m. Other girls to compete were U10 Anna Fanning, Clodagh Hocter. U11 Niamh Corcoran, Anna Grogan, Emer McGlynn, Karla Fanning, Lucia Zozro, Shauna Kehoe and Blessing Olarevdaju. U12 Emma Caulfield, Maeve O'Sullivan. U13 Ruth Heery, Anna O'Connor and Orla O'Connor.
The club and coaches are extremely proud of all our athletes as the standard was very high and they managed to impress at this level. We would like to thank all athletes who travelled and competed for Waterford A.C, and to the parents who travelled to support and help. Well done to all.
Training Times: Training for for track and field are now on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm- 8.15pm at the R.S.C. New members are always welcome.
Next weekend the 3rd and 4th of March will see our U14 - U19 athletes compete in the Munster Indoor Championship , Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. We wish them all the very best of luck.
